Lead Product Designer & Design Engineer · INRIX
Sean Mihaly
I design products, and then I build them. I'm the Lead Product Designer at INRIX, where I take my own ideas from Figma to working software using AI as my engineering team. The biggest of these so far is INRIX One, the platform that is replacing INRIX's entire product suite.
10+ years in product design. Most recently I've been working in transportation analytics at INRIX, and before that it was digital health at Aduro, enterprise security at Cisco, and corporate eLearning at OnPoint. These days I also write the production code for what I design. Claude Code and Copilot handle the heavy lifting, but I make the calls.
At INRIX I design for traffic engineers, planners, and city staff, which mostly means maps, safety data, and AI assistants. In 2025 I pitched INRIX One, the platform that will replace the company's product suite, and then I built it. In 2026 I designed and built two more products end to end.
What I'm good at:
- Shipping what I design. I prototype in real code so that decisions get made on working software. INRIX One went from my Figma file to a 199,000-line app that the company adopted.
- Making dense data readable. I design maps, layers, and charts for people who aren't analysts.
- Getting from a pain point to a product. I gather the evidence, make the case to leadership, and stay with it through release. Nobody asked for INRIX One. It started with customer complaints that I couldn't ignore.
- AI, in the product and in how we build. I design AI features that act on what's on screen, and I helped set up the AI-assisted process that my team builds with.
What people say
Sean demonstrated exceptional initiative by fully embracing prototyping and modern AI driven development workflows to accelerate product innovation. His work on the Movement Boundaries project brought ideas to life quickly, creating a tangible and compelling UI prototype that helped the team better understand, refine, and align on a powerful new capability within Signal Analytics. Beyond his individual contributions, Sean elevated the entire team by proactively preparing and leading training sessions on how to effectively use new AI coding tools for prototyping and product workflows. His ability to translate emerging technology into practical, team wide impact has improved how we ideate, iterate, and deliver, setting a strong foundation for faster and more creative product development moving forward.

How I work
Most of what I build, I build solo. It only pays off if the people around me can pick it up, so a good share of my time goes to that.
Teaching what I figure out. Once AI coding tools changed how I prototype, I prepared and led training sessions so that the rest of the product team could work the same way. The ACE Award for Innovation was for that as much as for the prototypes.
Fixing the process, with engineering. Early on, the INRIX One team built a separate product to test working with AI as a team, and the retro was blunt about missing structure and guardrails. Engineering and I set up what the team uses now: an architecture review before anyone builds, vertical slices by feature, shared AI skills, model routing with cost tracking, and a demo every day.
Working software in the room. People decide faster on something they can click than on a slide. The Movement Boundaries prototype helped the team define a new Signal Analytics capability, and leadership bought into INRIX One once they saw it running.
Things other people can build on. I created the Detroit Design System, which is used across INRIX products. On the Parking Scorecard I wrote a short contract for the WordPress team that hosts the site, so they know what my stylesheet resets and what it leaves alone.

I design INRIX's transportation analytics products and, since 2026, I build them too.
- Pitched, designed, and built INRIX One, the platform that is replacing INRIX's IQ product suite. Leadership adopted it and changed the roadmap.
- Designed and built the 2026 Parking Scorecard, a public data site covering 121 cities, with WCAG 2.2 AA as a release requirement.
- Designed and built INRIX Pay, an in-car parking and payments app that is going to CES 2027.
- Designed Road Rules, the 2025 Smart City Product of the Year (IoT Evolution World).
- Built the Movement Boundaries UI prototype that helped the team define a new Signal Analytics capability.
- Prepared and led team training on AI coding tools for prototyping and product workflows, and co-created the team's AI-assisted engineering process.
- Created the Detroit Design System used across INRIX products.
Aduro: Product Designer
2021
Designed Connect Care, a Type 2 diabetes coaching app, for Aduro's 2021 pilot.
